Sidewalk Chalk Activity

The past few days in class we have been doing a sidewalk chalk activity with people we have never met in our lives. The was an interesting experience, almost as interesting as what we actually drew on the sidewalk. The project itself made us each choose a symbol that we believe symbolizes us. For me, that was a turtle. A turtle symbolizes endurance, persistence, and continuing life against all odds. I chose hat for a few those reasons but mainly because a turtle is my favorite animal and I asked a magic 8 ball if I was supposed to be a turtle and it said yes. The other three people chose a rose, sparkle (or sprinkles it was never too clear) and a bumble bee. I honestly don't know why they chose those but I bet they have their own reasons.
When we had to start drawing up our design we had trouble deciding at first and even throughout the entire project because we constantly got off task joking around. At first our project was going to be a paint brush painting the symbols but then somebody brought up a trashcan and I made a joke about it being a raven puking it all up. For some reason they went for it. That was pretty much how it was for the first couple days. At some point we almost had Gollum swimming in it for the Ring or even Debby somewhere in there but we decided not to.
Finally on our last day, we started drawing it on the concrete, I guess you could say our plans were "concrete" at that point. We started off drawing the raven and the outline of the vomit going into a trashcan. After we did that, we drew the items and filled them all in with color. Once we had finished doing that, we added some stuff to our original design such as showing the hand of Oscar the Grouch begging for mercy in the garbage can. To behest I'm proud of how it ended up looking, as a team we worked very well together.
